Check out the first runs on my new Lionel Postwar Conventional Classic NYC & New Haven F3 Sets. The 2 pack of B&O Budd cars also make their first runs.

I also have my Burlington & Small hudson passenger sets running on the layout

My friend Kevin's NS SD70M-2s are also shown running on the layout.

  • What pullmor size does the Hudson have? Last time we talked you said there are to CC pullmor sizes the small size and large size so what size does the Hudson have? Are you sure the Berkshire will be the same as your PWC Berk? Thanks

  • @bradstrains - The Hudsons all use the spur gear type pullmor & the diesels use the vertical worm drive pullmor. The Berk, the Turbine, 773 Hudson & 746 N&W J all use the horizontal worm drive pullmor. If Lionel is making the cc Berks with a pullmor, which they are, this is the only type of motor that fits the drive train, so I'm sure it will have the worm pullmor.

  • @lorimersnd Are the worm drive more powerful than a spur geared motor? I know Postwar F3s had horizontal pullmors.

  • @bradstrains - I believe they are. The F3s had them until late 1954, when they switched to the vertical style still in use today.

  • Thanks for the help I will be buying a Lionel CC Hudson passenger set pretty soon and I wanted to clear up some things thank you!

  • @bradstrains - If you can get your hands on an old Lionel repair manual, you will be able to see exploded diagrams of the motor types used on the Berk, Hudson & GP series engines. This should clear it up a bit for you. But yes, the Hudson will will start faster b/c of the way it is geared compared to the Berk

  • @lorimersnd How do you know so much about it already? I think the Hudson will have a higher starting TE because on the Hudson all Drivers are geared to the motor. So is the Hudsons Motor a small type pullmor? I really think that the Hudson has a large type pullmor. Are you sure they will have a larger motor compared to the Hudson because last I heard they're only 2 types of conventional Classic motors the large and the small type.

  • @bradstrains - I have the Berk, but it's a PWC engine, not a conventional classic. Those 2 sets are due out during the summer. They will use the motor though. The Berk uses a worm drive motor instead of the spur gear type on the Hudsons. On the Berk, only the rear drivers are powered & it uses the rods to transfer the power to the other drivers. The Berk motor is larger & should be able to pull a longer train, but keep in mind, it uses more voltage

  • Do you have the Berkshire Conventional Classic steam engine? If you do, does it use the same spur geared motor as the Hudson? Which would you say pulls better the CC Berkshire or CC Hudson? Probably the Berkshire in starting Tractive effort because it has 4 magnetraction axles VS the Hudsons 3, but if they have the same motor the Hudson could probably move a heavy train faster as long as it could start it because it has bigger drivers than a Berkshire.

  • @lorimersnd Is there a large difference in speed of the motor or torque I know that the Hudson motor are horizontal and not vertical.
