LYRICS:
Can't you see I feel your pain?
I've got Jesus running through my veins
In this hopeless life that's turned on you
Give yourself to me, I'll help you through
I feed off your unanswered fear
When visions of life's end appear
Hand over your will and then you'll see
Now get on your knees and worship me

(CHORUS)
GOD NO! GOD NO!
Worship me
On your knees
Worship me

In this world when at it's best
Of never ending hate and death
Abandon all and trust in me
Escaping from reality
My world it has no space or time
The crippled walk and the sick feel fine
Hand over your will and then you'll see
Now get on your knees and worship me

(CHORUS)
GOD NO! GOD NO!
Worship me
On your knees
Worship me

Beyond this wall of life unknown
I'll lead you where you need to go
Void of worry, stress and pain
Left with nothing but your name
We've washed your brain and cleansed your soul
Till' nothing's all you need to know
Hand over your will and then you'll see
Now get on your knees and worship me

(CHORUS)
GOD NO! GOD NO!
Worship me
On your knees
Worship me
(CHORUS)
GOD NO! GOD NO!

"Counterfeit God" is a single by Black Label Society, featured on their 2000 studio album, Stronger Than Death.

The song is about televangelists, much like the earlier Ozzy Osbourne which Zakk co-wrote, "Miracle Man," which dealt with the hypocrisy of Jimmy Swaggart. In a 2000 interview, Zakk said "I saw a TV evangelist. This guy sells out arenas, and he touches people on the head, and they're supposed to be blind, and then they're not blind anymore. That's the biggest backstabbing version of God I've ever seen...Anton LaVey's got nothing over this guy. That's pure Satanism to me. He's backstabbing God so bad it's not even funny. People are paying money for that, and believe in that. How the hell are they believing it? This guy's playing God. To me, it's pure blasphemy."

  • This is not about religion. It is about drogs. Just as simply as that.

  • @tibic Drogs? Hahahaha!

  • First of all, this song isn't against religion. Zakk has said that it is about all those televangelists like Benny Hinn and the like who perform "miracle healings" and act like they are Holy. Second, I'm pretty sure Zakk believes in God anyway.

You don't have to be religious to like music guys. Just listen to whatever you like.

  • This song is clearly about televangelists who think they are as holy as God.. even the pope thinks he's "Holy". I'm a Christian.. so is the Boss and he will be the first to tell you that. Metal is about the attitude and the music that expresses it best.. I WORSHIPED THE REPLAY BUTTON! am I going to hell for that? I think not.. Bleed Black motherfuckers! SDMF \m/

  • @loverboyupland hahaha drogs.. maybe it's some sort of drug related frog

  • @ludovicus777 He probably read the Satanic Bible at some time. Hell, so have I. Big whoop. Just thought it was hella funny how he described this little hypothetical situation when his wife tossed it.

I believe Zakk's Christian. He's also VERY spiritually insightful to realize that these TV evangelists he's singing about (not LeVay and his dumb-ass Satanism) are defrauding people in the name of God.

Zakk's just super cool and I wish there were more folks like him (and Ozzy too!). Peace.

  • WTF are you talking about?

Zakk Wylde openly declares as a Christian (i.e. look for interviews). I don't know what people told about this song. What I can see here is that LaVey says "worship me" and Zakk says "God, NO, God, NO!" meanwhile (= denying Satan)...

And what about "I've got Jesus running through my veins"?

  • I saw these guys in October of 2010. They were supposed to play a decent sized venue, but the show got moved to a fuckin club. They packed all their stadium gear into this club and just tore the place down. Never been to such a loud, kick ass concert.

  • From the archives of Classic Rock Magazine. It's an interview of Zakk from April 2004. Read it, laughed my ass off!!

....for the past 15 minutes he’s been telling an hilarious story about his wife Barbaranne throwing his copy of Anton LaVey’s The Satanic Bible out of their apartment window: “Imagine if someone had been sitting there and wondering: ‘What am I gonna do with my life? Give me a sign,’”he grins playfully. “Then ‘Whump!’, this fucking book lands next to them on the grass!”

  • I actually like this kind of music, and I'm Christian.

  • Metal isn't against religion.... it's a type of music that needs lyrics to match... This is the proof... Religious people who says metal's anti-religion really needs to take a good look in the mirror... it's just music you guys, not a conspiracy... sure the lyrics may be about "religion" and the devil sometimes, but that doesn't make it "wrong"... There's nothing wrong with listening to metal... Whether your religious or not!
