@SpiralShard What was said during the convo? Usually "friend zone" means you failed to attract the person. I notice this happens when guys don't establish themselves as a romantic/sexual possibility early on or even at all. Ever watch Californication on Showtime? If so listen to what Hank Moody says, body language, confidence, etc. Although its TV, you see the same things in clubs and bars. Humor, charm, guts, and attitude goes a long way to avoiding friend zones.

@MaJiahuo All because men have a higher level of control in this situation. They're the ones expected to choose. From the male perspective, sure, there are a lot of nerves when trying to ask the prettiest girl out, but what about all the perfectly awesome women on the side lines, wishing they were the ones getting the attention? Because of the imbalance of power, they are not expected to make a move themselves but instead wait for someone to ask them. That is certainly not control.

@MaJiahuo Certainly most? Based on... your personal experience and media? Have you met at least over half of women and asked them if they're okay with it? As far as the level of control, the person waiting like a princess to be asked out by her prince does not have much control at all. Sure, she can "shoot him down," but what about the girl who waits forever? Or the girl who jumps at the 1st guy that comes by because she feels she might not get another chance?
