  • i just bought a feeder, but i don't know the ratio of sugar to water to put into it. is there an optimal ratio for attracting hummingbirds?

  • The optimal ratio is 4/1 - water/sugar

  • This is the best brand of hummingbird feeder and lives up to it's advertising. I don't even bother looking at other brands anymore, I just add more of these around the yard as the hummingbird population grows. They're so much fun to watch!

  • I meant the sun

  • We have green, red, and yellow humming birds on our deck every morning untill the comes above the tree line, their pretty cool to watch

  • My feeders look like this too only smaller with the water moat in the center. I never have ants anymore.

  • @TwinkeCayke What I do to keep the ants out is put chalk on the pole where the hummingbird feeder is hanging off of and they won't come up it. I read it in a magazine and it said ants never cross sidewalk chalk. So I tried it thinking that was a good idea and it actually works. The ants only come whenever your hummingbird feeder is leaking I never knew that because mine leaked all the time so I got a glass hummingbird feeder instead of a plastic one.

  • How do you keep the ants and flies out of the feeder

  • Use cane sugar (C&H brand I think), not beet sugar - there have been reports that cane sugar is more attractive to hummingbirds than the beet sugar.

  • Amazing
