Is it ok for a Christian boyfriend sleep over at a Christian girlfriend's house if they are not having sex?
Pastor Mark Driscoll answers this question as part of a live "Ask Anything" session in which audience members SMS questions to the pulpit to be answered in real time.
This question was answered in the broader context of a sermon entitled "Sexual Sin" which can be found at http://www.marshillchurch.org/media/religionsaves/sexual-sin
What if the person is asexual? My friend is... we sleep over all the time.

@177Jeremiah7 "Essentially, it just doesn't look right to those who are seeing a man who is single going inside a woman's house who is also single."
Looks about right to me. The various denominations treat Scripture very differently. Evangelicals like Driscoll tend to treat the Bible as a "Living Morally: For Dummies" book, but others (Lutherans) see it as a lot more complex, and ultimately human in origin, albeit divinely inspired. Christianity covers a wide spectrum of beliefs.

@177Jeremiah7 I am not a Christian, my girlfriend is. If sleeping in the same bed as me outweighs her church and charity service, or her mission in the Philippines, then so be it. It's irritating that she holds such a faith. It's a curious state of be so genuinely abdicated from reason. But whacha gonna do?

@scenepunk09 That just might be the case scencepunk, where it's really innocent and where nothing is going on. But what Mark is getting at, is that the Bible commands us to abstain from all appearance of evil. Essentially, it just doesn't look right to those who are seeing a man who is single going inside a woman's house who is also single.

@DomeSwag If you are truly a Christian, then the Bible needs to be your standard. The Bible has to be the ultimate standard for Christian living. Indeed, it is our manual to live by and follow after.
He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding. - Proverbs 15:32

@DomeSwag Whether you like it or not. The Holy Bible commands us to abstain from the very appearance of evil ( 1 Thessalonians 5:22 ).
Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? - Proverbs 6:27
Just remember that God wrote the Holy Bible and God is way smarter than any of us finite humans. The very fact that your offended and angry at this man for pointing out your error, shows that you already know it's not right but still do it anyway.

I have a Christian girlfriend. She sleeps over at my house. We've done this for months. We don't have sex. No one judges us, aside from dimwits like yourself. She's a family friend, and it welcomed warmly in to my home whenever she wishes to come over. So yes, a man can have hot coal thrown on to his lap and not be burned (as if that wasn't the worst analogy in the history of thought). I truly hope people are not taking anything you say seriously, you're an intellectual invalid.
