Iron Maiden
Sanctuary
Metal For Muthas
Recorded November 1979 / Released 1980

This rare compilation album contained only the second released recording of Iron Maiden's material and also included various other NWOBHM bands during the height of the movements exposure.

The songs were recorded at EMI Manchester Square in November 1979, during which time Tony Parsons was a member of the band. However it is not 100% certain if he is actually on these recordings.

While Metal For Muthas was not earth-shattering in its effect on the music industry of that time, it was still an important stepping-stone for Iron Maiden. At the end of the Metal For Muthas tour, Maiden released their first self-titled studio album, which went straight to number four and sold over 50,000copies. Metal For Muthas may have had a significant impact in preparing the way for the new album and Iron Maiden.

Paul DiAnno - Vocals
Steve Harris - Bass
Dave Murray - Guitar
Tony Parsons - Guitar
Doug Sampson - Drums

  • @TheAtraxRobustus One of those people? THE only person.

  • Rock `n Roll ?

  • @darkshredder95 so true!!! i can't stand it when people hate on bruce just because of the fact he's not paul

bruce is an amazing singer just like paul is although i must admit i'm not too keen on blaze but i think thats mainly because of the poor production on his 2 albums and although production wasn't very good on the original self titled maiden album the song quality is much better then the song writing from the blaze era

  • paul di'anno stuff with maiden was awesome. running free, phanton of the opera, killers and also this. a huge contrast to the blaze era, which i really dont like unless its the live versions with bruce singing.

speaking of bruce, he's the icing on the cake. his voice carried maiden to become the greatest of the greatest.

  • @TheAtraxRobustus Nope, can't stand Bruce Dick.

This is the only Maiden to me.

  • I like how the "warhorse of steel" was represented on the cover art...whether it was intentional or not.

  • One thing that I never figured out is that I heard that Maiden had to hold off on "Wrathchild" until the second album because it was on this compilation but "Sanctuary" made it on the debut LP. No comparison IMP as far as "Wrathchild" being a stronger tune, so why wait on it?

  • @TheAtraxRobustus

close agree, though Di'Anno has done amazing stuff

    Remember Tomorrow, Killers, Purgatory, . . .

  • I've got this one
