@andysouthlandkurt, I love race-mares that are good enough to run with, and beat the boys. Ventura did it. Goldikova has done it most of her career. Proviso beat a solid field of males in the 2010 Frank E. Kilroe Mile. A race Ventura ran 2nd in to Gio Ponti in 2009. Zenyatta beating the B.C. Classic field. I love to watch great race-mares like these.

I just saw her win the gr.1 Matriarch at Hollywood Park over the Thanksgiving weekend. What a mare, and what a way to conclude a career! Just like Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra, Ventura also beat males in a gr.1 this year (Woodbine Mile). She also just missed against males in the gr.1 Kilroe when nosed on the wire by the to-be-named Eclipse champ Gio Ponti.
