John Todd's presentation at Cluecon (http://www.cluecon.com) was one of the most interesting. To start, he canvassed CraigsList to get his graphics, pretty cool if you ask me. He shows a couple guys who are using open source technologies such as Yate, FreeSWITCH or Asterisk to offer emergency notification system with Jim DeVito and offer a combination of voip solutions with Nitzan Kon.
He hints at the idea that Oregon state school system will be leaving their current Cisco system to the more flexible, cost-saving open source telephony solution.
(We had this one problem with major mike feedback during John's presentation. Brian West and the guys did their best to keep it under control. I started to add another video of John but it was filled with constant feedback. Arrghh!)
Finally John decided the right thing. Turn off the system because John would be able to give his presentation without the speaker system.
He notes that we can buy a Class 5 switch on eBay for about $5000 USD that used to sell for a 1/4 million. That's change (pun intended).
"Are you a developer? You are a very employable resource," says John Todd.
John Todd's presentation has a positive, open-ended during a time when people are being laid off and as always he is modest and inspiring. Visit the Astricon conference Oct. 13-15, 2009 in Glendale, AZ at http://www.astricon.net.
