For a very long time - maybe 100 years - the cannon in Stanley Park in Vancouver has fired every night at nine o'clock - originally to tell the fishing fleet it was time to head for port. Although it fires just a blank charge - some years back the Engineering students at UBC carved a rock the exact size of the cannon's bore and pushed it in. The resulting shot went thru the 'O' in the ESSO Gas Barge offshore. Since then, the gun has been enclosed in a more secure environment. Enjoy.
