@asdafrak any music genre like "pop punk" or pop rock" isnt the original genre fused with pop but just takes an element of "pop" by making the song a bit light more catchier melodies, and "pop" isnt really a genre just the mainstream of the day, like the beatles who are more "pop" sounding then rock

most of green day (after dookie) is considered pop-punk

the offspring is pop-punk

Because they have a lot of songs that seem to be mainly written and produced for the mainstream audience, you know, just like POP music. That's not necessarily bad, but when you consider what POP means, and how it is categorized, it shouldn't be too hard to see how sum1 could even consider them pop lol
