Lt Col Arthur "Bud" Holland was a a old school pilot of war time temperament behind the stick. He kept pushing and exceeding the excepted limits of the plane which caused a split between fans and scared crew members and other less reckless individuals.
Some actions that caused concern were his unsafe behavior at a elementary school event, and the big one, his unauthorized taping and flying actions at Yakima Bombing Range where the minimum attitude was 500ft and the film showed distances of 3 ft or 1 meter. This scared the crew so badly that they reported it to their wing commander Lt. Col McGeehan who after viewing the tape, prohibited his crew further flying with Bud unless he was on board. An investigation resulted but was ultimately swept under the rug due to Bud's reputation as a bad ass and career time. But anonymity between he and Lt. Col McGeehan remained.
A you will witness, ole Bud just kept taking things a little further as time went on and flew the huge plane like a much smaller one, which takes a fraction of the time to pull out of air to wing problems. The final flight was at the retirement of a commander who was on-board, his wife and kids were in attendance, also on board was Lt. Col McGeehan to keep Bud in check. Did Bud push the plane to spite him? We'll never know.
