That's okay, it's just that the difference is the fact that the coffee industry in Australia has not been capitalised on the way it has been in North America. There are a couple of Starbucks, but mainly there are independently owned cafes. It wouldn't be very practical giving money to huge multi-million dollar companies when you can support a small family owned business that cares about their product.

It's just a different coffee culture. Australian's don't sell diner styled drip coffee that is common place in North America. If you were in Australia and asked for a 'coffee' they would ask you "what coffee?". Australia is highly influenced by the Italian espresso style and has a alfresco cafe culture rather than American diner.
