This compilation of photographs of the retrieval of US Airways Flight 1549 from the Hudson River shows about 20 still photos taken (we believe) on the evening of January 17, 2009 into the early morning of January 18, 2009. The skill to remove this air vessel from the water in tact is nothing short of amazing.

  • wheres the right engine?

  • @tylervet Asstrong as an aircraft may seem, it is actually very fragile. Stress applied to the wrong areas will make it literally fall apart. Skin in some areas is as thin as 0.016" The weight of water will make it buckle or even pop rivets. That's why the water had to be drained slowly.

  • how many are frozen ??

  • Awesome footgage. Great jot to all that were involved.

  • all that for a little bird shit

  • @tylervet they bring it up slow enough that the water drains out and not to break it

  • How is the skill to remove this vessel from the water in tact nothing short of amazing? It hit the water at close to 180 mph and didn't fall apart. Why would it suddenly fall apart when being lifted slowly out of the water?
