I want a portable DG for hiking and fishing. Is that possible these days?

Just curious. How would such a device be secure against hackers on board a plane? If central systems of an airplane communicates wireless, that would mean there is a way in from the passenger cabin.. and if thats the case, you really dont need explosives to bring down a plane?!
No matter how much security you bring in to the loop, id like to point out that a lot of businesses doing computer security for a living also gets hacked.

That's really great,good job,that's a lot of work hours,it was a project for what? i mean Phd,or ?

i would really like to see something like this in the future though it would make my job so much easier no more tracing wires. fibre optics are already in use in military aircraft i have worked on them they work as part of a data bus for the dfcc's etc

@jm3la yeah, the great potential problem is the eletromagnetic interference. We simple can't prevent this from happening and disturb a safety-critical systems. Also heavy blinding alI hardare is not an option. So think using optical fibes is a best, more conservative enginering solution to overcome this.

i think most avionics engineers in the industry have thought of this it is an excellent idea but with all ideas that come about in aviation it would need approval how do you plan to ensure its free of errors? are we still going to need to use standby instruments?

very nice!
Awesome innovation....
wireless.. as you say reduces the cost involved.
Hope they reduce the air fares incorporating this :)

Kudos!!
It will never happen on GA aircraft, sorry

It is happening...a commercial product came out which works on the similar concept, converting RS232/435 data into wireless and transmit to electronic flight bag..search for Skyfi 2000
Thanks for the comments.
