This wonderful tune was written in 1936. It came into prominence in 1947 when Chickie Williams recorded the "Talking Version." She recited the poem "Should I Go First" in the song. It went to number three on the charts. This is a 1950 version that went to number seven on the charts. Hank Williams & Red Foley made notable recordings later. It is said that Hank Williams went to Ms Williams to "learn" the song. This is the "B" side of the record "The Game Of Broken Hearts." This clip is from the record I bought in 1950.

  • The version on the Album "Beyond the Sunset" was much different than this one. Elton did that one alone and sang most of the song.

  • @johnkentuckyjk They don't know great music. Every generation has to have their own preferences; but just like much of society, the taste is

    deteriorating.

  • Fantastic... what a nice sound!
