  • @Hawk193 its not just the dams that hurt the salmon runs, now days we have other challenges like migrating sealions and gill nets. another thing is now days all sport fishermen are only aloud to keep hatchery fish for the most part, so we kinda make what we keep to try not to effect the natural numbers. it might not be perfect but its way better than nothing.

  • This is incredible. Fish conservation on an industrial scale. Roughly how many fish does this produce?

  • what makes sense about this fishery is they are only taking the eggs of the fish that have made it through natural selection; a young salmon or trout would have to survive lake ontario to adult size, then survive the phsyically taxing run up the entire salmon river, without getting fooled by one of the many hook and line fisherman. The result is the strongest and most resiliant fish ( and least likely fish to bite a lure or fly, over the long run) are reproduced. Its a model hatchery plan.

  • It seems so unnatural. I realize that this is to raise more of the fish to adulthood, but how much better might it be if we didn't have the dams to stop the fish from spawning naturally?

  • where is this location at?

  • @niggahigganum2 Yeah the fish hold up in them to catch their breath so to speak. Its not a good idea to ride into the hole because you'll push them out basically scare them out. Try to avoid that by skirting the edges and staying quiet and moving slowly

  • @Copperswilly would you suggest fishing the deeper holes like black hole

  • @niggahigganum2 ...Anywhere would be good but you have to be careful of the current and depth. Lots of big rocks to crash into. We fished in an around Pulaski, NY. There's lots of little islands the river makes a bunch of twists and turns through that area plus your not far from Lake Ontario.

  • Wow incredible. That hatchery must produce millions of fish.

  • very nice video... yavrualabalik in Turkey
