US wants talks with moderate Afghan Taliban - 08 Mar 09

As the US continues its plans to drawn down operations in Iraq, President Barack Obama has again been turning his attention to Afghanistan.

He's warned that despite 17, 000 American troops, expected to arrive over the coming months, it won't be enough to win the war. He says a reconciliation process is needed for moderate elements of the Taliban, but Taliban won't talk until American forces withdraw.

Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr reports from Kabul.

The Spring (Mar-May) of 1994 was when the first action by the Taliban occured.

A Kandahari warlord had abducted two girls and kept them at his military base where they were being gang-raped. Thirty talibs (talib means student) with 16 automatic rifles attacked, freed the girls and executed the warlord by hanging him on a tank barrel. They got a lot of arms from that raid.

u know the taliban were destroying poppy fields, they break the hands and legs of opium farmers, some say usa invaded to protect the opium crops just like vietnam, using military transport to ship it; a 500% increase since invasion.. go figure.

President Roosevelt provoked the Pearl Harbor attack, knew about it in advance and gave false information to the Hawaiian commanders. FDR wanted the attack since the public and Congress were overwhelmingly against entering WWII. 88% of Americans were against the war before Pearl Harbor occured.

FDR was an Assistant Secretary of the Navy before he became a politician.
