    Like the idea that the ark is a metaphor for a scholar, but I don't agree with your interpretation. "Gold" represents: "the teachings of men" and "wood" represents: "knowledge from God via the earth". The important point I believe is that the Torah specifies "purest gold", which like "pure food" ("clean" is a mistranslation) means: "closest to the ideas of God." I feel: "gold" like "the 6 days of the week" is what man needs before attaining knowledge sent from God on the Sabbath.
