I'd put a temp auge in center of lid, the spot where yours is will read about 15 - 25 degrees hotter than where the meat is at. I did this and was surprised at the different temps, helped me know when to adjust the vents. It sure looks great though, nice rig! I keep my expanded metal racks oiled and seasoned with canola like an iron skillet every so often to prevent rust.

Well thought out, awesome smoker, only changes I would make are...
1. trap door to ad more fuel to the basket (ie. coal, wood)
2. A water tray (maybe take the last two rows just above the coal basket)
Imho, a great smoker. but needs refinement. Good luck. Im just to lazy to build one.
