To travel from Beijing to Xi'an I first purchased a train ticket from Beijing central station for 256 RMB. Travelling by overnight sleeper train from Beijing to Xi'an was a most interesting experience that I would advise anyone with a sense of adventure to try. Please Note the journey took over 14 hours !

@klaptrap Hi, in fact people chose trains, plains or their own cars depending on time, distance, price, etc. The airports in China are crowded either...so are the expressways especially during holidays. I used to travel by air alot but the fights were often behind schedule in Beijing bcoz of too many fights there. But I guess most of the poor in China cannot afford a fight.
That mekes me really wanna move to a non overpopulated country such as the states, australia, whatever :(

Aiii.. How I miss China! I also took the train from Beijing to Xi'an but I didn't have a bed, there were hard seats left. Actually, wasn't that bad at all, just a extremely long journey............ But it was worth it!
哎呀我真想回去中国 :(

The best way is by plane. Its quicker and not that expensive travelling within China.

Buy your train tickets early, make sure you are at the right station, that is Beijing West station, not Beijing Railway Station. And bring along some wax earplugs to help you sleep.
