Anthropology Thompson Lucky 1959
Lucky Thompson the famous American early bebop tenor saxophonist is on a visit to the Blue Note Club in Paris. In December 1959 this clip was recorded with the Bud Powell trio with Kenny Clarke on drums and Pierre Michelot on bass. Also an interesting guitar solo from Jimmy Gourley.

The Institut National de l'Audiovisuel (INA) gives 09 JAN 1960 as the date for this TV broadcast. Others date it anywhere from early NOV 1959 to mid-JUN 1960. From a program called Modern Jazz At the Blue Note. :I:

having lived in the midwest until this session occurred, i thought the best jazz music had already been done, by some guys named Benny Goodman and Louis Armstrong, and knew of only one "jazzy" sax player whom I liked, Earl Bostic, playing "Harlem Nocturne."
it's them, right? they keep these geniuses from us.

Che bravi. Jimmy Gourley semplicemente fantastico. Le sue frasi hanno una logica formidabile.
