Physynth is a great example of an experimental music app; offering the control you need to make meaningful experiments with predictable outcomes.

Physynth is available now on iTunes: http://goo.gl/VGxL4

  • Nice job explaining the app but it seems to me that people are designer more and more complicated apps that sound shittier and shittier. Yes it looks cool but to what end? G and Sunrizer!

  • @goofparade That is a fair question. Recent technological advancements have allowed developers to really explore sound in shittier and shittier ways! Take a look at Reaktor for some great examples. The appeal is in that exploration, more so than the result. It is hugely gratifying when you actually come up with something that does not sound shitty! I think many synthesists feel this way... or we'd play something simple like a guitar.

  • @vpmitchell I think it is totally fair to accuse bloggers/vloggers of taking a pay-off, and we should be accountable to answer for it. Your answer is no! I received no payment for this video. You'll note in the start of every review I say where and how I got the app, because I believe in full disclosure. I received a promo-code for a free copy of the app, and was offered a t-shirt but I declined.

    @marlenedegrood Thanks!

  • @periurban You're right, it is a plinky plonk machine, but I enjoyed the control it offered over how it plinked and what plonk sounds like. A similar app is Soundrop (free), which I enjoy but is very much a toy, offering little control over the results. I thought of this as Soundrop but with all the control I wanted!

    I was also disappointed in the "synth" not offering any sound editing, but got distracted by the fun I was having trying to come up with new simulation ideas.

  • Way too complex that bores. Graphic interface really stands out but musically it sucks

  • Rather.. Go nano studio, Sunrizer and addictive synth!

  • @vpmitchell Yeah like geo synthesizer and morphwiz lol....they are two of many amazing music apps.

  • more sounds will be added, coreMidi and many other features. There's a couple of surprises in store i heard!

  • He does not say that "all other apps are toys" ... listen people ... he said that some apps that are toys call themselves experimental. I've watched many reviews by Discchord and I highly doubt he was paid by the designer. This seems like an honest review of what the app is and how it works. I bought the app based on this review, it's really a lot of fun to play around with & a refreshing change from the apps I use to create music. I think it will grow and be updated if we give it a chance.

  • There is a very limited range of samples, none of which are very innovative or interesting. I mean marimba and piano FFS. No sound editing. It's a plinky plonk machine. It's a toy, but just a very complicated one, and it sounds terrible!
