Chris Matthews took a lot of heat for saying he wants to do everything he can to make Obama's new presidency a success -- but people are taking the quote out of context. Matthews goes on to say: "There's a big difference between trying to argue over policy, which we're going to definitely have to do -- questioning and being skeptical over the right policy in terms of healthcare, in terms of getting the fiscal house in order --all that is appropriate debate, you and I agree on this. But whether there's an effective role out of cabinet people, whether there is an effective execution -- I think that's all in our interest that there be an effective one, that this administration take office with some crackle, with some discipline, without having a lot of distractions -- I think that's in the national interest. It benefits all of us."

  • ''in the tank' is kind

  • @lilsouth13505 Dude, that line of criticism is way too cliched.

  • Joe Scarborough's finest moment.

  • matthews is a fool but olbermann is a jackass

  • Who are we to judge Chris just because Obama gives him a tingley feeling up his thigh?

  • Ya missed the key point. There's no problem in hoping the government runs smooth and ends with positive results for the US. The fourth estate is useless if it becomes a cheerleader for the executive branch. IT AINT HIS JOB TO MAKE SURE ANYBODY IN WASH DC IS SUCCESSFUL. Unless he wishes to join a politician's staff or have we become one of those countries with official govt. approved press coverage. Pravda anyone?

  • He is in the tank for Obama, obviously there is no media objectivism - especially considering he has a tingle up his leg.

He wants to do everything to make the "Obama" administration work, I wonder if he would say the same if a Republican was voted into office in 2012.....I guess time will tell.

  • Yes. It is delicious. It is the justification of 6 year olds. All that bluster about being smarter and enlightened tossed out the door and left with "Johnny did it too Mrs. Jones". Use of this defense is basically an admission of guilt, with that refreshing after-dinner dash of whining.
