Sharon,
What size needle do you use? a Size 7 basting needle does not have an eye big enough for the DMC thread you are using....suggestions?

gosh, I started quilting about 2 years ago. I'm learning through the older ladies at church when we meet once a month for sewing club. I've never basted a quilt...only used the safety pins! I've seen some of this by the ladies but never paid attention. Mostly I work on quilt tops as I learn different patterns and then a few of the ladies do nothing but pin and tie the quilts.

Thanks for showing us a much easier way to baste a quilt! I always had trouble basting my quilt with safety pins and it still was not straight! I really enjoyed your demonstration with the boards..now I am going to ask my husband to go and buy a board for me at the hardware store lol Thanks again!

Gentilissima signora Sharon,mi complimento con lei per il bellissimo video che ho appena visto.Mi dispiace molto di non comprendere la sua lingua,ma già dal video posso imparare cose semplicemente.
La ringrazio molto.

This is absolutely wonderful. My question is what kind of table or board are you working on? I work mostly on large king size quilts.

hahahaha "having husband help baste wasn't good for marriage" THAT is so funny!!!!! Poor guy. LOL Thank You for video, I'm in the process of making my first quilt; and think this board trick will make it so much easier. Because it helps to complete one section at a time, and keeps everything straight and less overwhelming!!! (still laughing ;p)

Sharon, this method is the BOMB! My hands are just that little bit too stiff to pin without pain, and I hated bending over the floor or tables to pin. I love this method because I can sit comfortably, baste at my own pace (you can easily leave this, go make dinner and come back), and have such great control of all layers. I have posted links to this on my web page and in chat boards. Thanks!
Wonderful video and unique way to baste. I am more than intrigued. I have been big fan of the safety pin method for years but may change that some day after seeing this.
I just have question for you. With all that long thread on the top, does it get in the way with machine quilting? Does your needle or thread ever get caught?
Thanks,
Chris

Like it shows in the video you cut and remove the thread when you are coming up to it with your quilting. Do not remove any more then you need to.
