Very true. That would mean that we better have a hover board soon :P

In terms of function, someone actually said to me today a good point when I wore my version of these shoes to school- that elderly/disabled people could use these if they couldn't get their shoes on by themselves. That is actually a very good use of these shoes for something more than proving that we can do something.

I would say it more with making our tech vision a reality. Think of star trek, alot of engineers now grew up with this concept of future technology with the goal of making it a reality. I think its more of a case: to prove to ourselves that we can make it a reality.
