Deer are like rats.. they're everywhere. If the tree-huggers let the hunters take as many as they need to take to make it less hazardous to those who travel the roads (and apparently those who travel the skies), there'd be enough venison to feed three small 3rd world nations. I hate 'em!

That depends on whether or not the FAA approves of the use of such during nighttime flight, be it VFR or IFR. The military uses it, but they are not under the jurisdiction of the FAA.

Oh shit, dammit! Saw that coming when I read the title.

you need to get an enhanced vision system. it helps turn night into day.

Yes, it does. Deer are very good jumpers - especially with they see a nice big open area full of delicious grass.

Oh, and the damage was tallied at ~$35k.
howd the little dude find his way in the middle of an airport with all the flashing lights?

I don't think I've ever heard anybody claim they were smart. :)

I guess I'm trying to relive the moment... Had a bad night tonight. I fly a 182 also and had to quit flying early due to a massively wrinkled right wing fuel bladder, possible vent issue. Then I borrowed a friends 206 to take the wife & kids up and hit a dear front & center on roll out. I don't know the extent of the damage yet, I'll have to take a better look in the morning light. I know it hit the prop, front gear & lower cowling. Scared the kids a little. It sucked to say the least.

Ouch. At least everybody (but perhaps the deer) walked away.
How did you determine the fuel bladder was wrinkled?
