Earth hasn't been destroyed, The terran are humans that got lost from earth in space and don't have contact with them anymore, mainly because they are extremely far away.

BIG BIG BIG NOOOOO!!! The Terrans from starcraft have nothing to do with earth there ancestors were sent away on 4 massive prisson ships that went off course and crashed in the region of space near both the Protoss and the Zerg. Earth has no idea they even exist and they couldn't care less about earth it's just some old story to them. If they met earthlings now it would not go over well and earth would not belive the storys of the protoss or the zerg.

Earth is not destroyed ... In SC: Broodwar the United Earth Directorate shows up and joins Jim Raynor, I think there were Alexei Stukov and the general who shot himself after Kerrigan kicked his ass ... it was very sad ...
