"This one's coming straight out of the dancehall!"
Okay, so first there was my original mix of Can't Hold Back, and despite the number of times I tweaked and re-mixed the track down, Shimmy went and blew the original completely out of the water with his nu-skool-breakbeat-meets-happy-hardcore remix! At the time, I'd been a big fan of Shimamura's work for a number of years, so I was very honoured that he agreed to do this remix for me. This will remain my favourite version of the track, and the one I generally play during DJ sets if I'm going to play it out. It's also thanks to this remix that the song got BBC Radio 1 airplay on Kutski's "In New DJs We Trust" show.
I do feel a little bit guilty about this remix since the original terms with Shimamura were that I would remix one of his tracks in return for this, and in fact I did produce and complete a breakbeat hardcore remix of Koja Yukino's song "Absolute", which he produced. Unfortunately due to some unforseen copyright issues, the remix didn't see a release and will probably never see the light of day. So at the moment I still owe the guy a remix, haha.
