So, I've been unicycling for a couple months; when you grind, do you do it on the actual pedal? Or is it somehoe on the crank arm??

@FredrickVonShwinkel
A little of both. Mostly pedal, get plastic ones for grinding if you've got metal.

hey im new to unicycling and i was hoping you could tell me what the best size to use 4 grinding and also if i need metal pedals or if [plastic is better...thanks!

@chrisdagle - Plastic is best for grinding. Paint one side of each pedal so you can distinguish between the two, and only grind the unpainted side. This way you have one side that grips and one that slips after you start wearing it down. If you grind both sides of the pedal down, it's harder to keep your foot from slipping off.

any tips for balance, etc? i can grind about 6 inches on a flat rail but not consistent

The best I can suggest is that you jump on the rail as if you're going to stand on it with one foot. If you are trying to stick out your pedal/crank to hit the rail, your weight will not be centered over the rail and you will have to jump/fall off the side. Find a flat rail and practice jumping from the side to the rail as if you were grinding, but do it from a stand still so you can practice getting planted firmly on the rail.
