Governor Palin actively campaigned against a state ballot measure this summer aimed at protecting Alaska's Bristol Bay. The mining industry seeks to develop a gold and copper mine in the area that would pollute the Bay's headwaters and threaten the spawning grounds for the largest remaining wild salmon run. The initiative would have prevented large-scale mining operations from dumping waste materials into salmon watersheds. Palin is a bad JOKE!

You have no idea what a mine of such magnitude would do to the cradle of Bristol Bay. The rocks, for example, contain sulfur. When oxidized, sulfuric acid forms. This oxidation will take place regardless of whether it is an open pit mine, underground, etc. Considering the projected load of tailings, that is a lot of sulfuric acid.
This area (Illiamna/Mulchatna) hosts the LARGEST RUN OF SALMON IN THE WORLD! The risk is too great...
