For Robben Fords enthusiastic Paris fans, this New Morning concert in July, 2009 captures their icons genius in a truly unprecedented manner. Backed brilliantly by Athens-born drummer Toss Panos, who brings a Mediterranean flavor to the trio and by bassist Travis Carlton, Robbens unique style (a tasteful blend of strength and finesse) asserts itself impressively above and beyond his rock, jazz, fusion & blues influences. This DVD, recorded in HighDefinition, also features two onus tracks with the legendary Larry Coryell joining the Robben Ford Trio on stage: A truly unique feature!

I know the story of that guitar but I prefer him on the tele or his old gibsons. This one has a kinda scooped quality that to me takes some of the trademark singing out of his tone. It gets too beefy and high-endy in a slightly loose twangy way that somehow steals away the tension a bit.
Just personal taste of course - I know he's jazzed about it.

Why this concert is on DvD and not the great vids from the RockPalast concert around the same period ? No comparaison in those two, on the RockPalast vids the guys are ON FIRE and Robben has (with his Dumble) a truly- amazing - sound... Much more than here, in that tiny club with Robben on poor rented amps.. That's weird.

When opening for Johnny Winter (early 90s San Francisco), after 2 encores, Johnny showed up and proclaimed everyone just had a guitar lesson... Nice johnny was upstaged and he knew it, but he was too cool to not acknowledge excellence. Robben rules!
