Iron Dome successfully intercepts rocket fired at Israel

07 April 2011 , 21:25

Immediately following the interception, IAF aircraft strike a rocket-launching terrorist cell in the Gaza Strip

IDF Website

During IDF operations in Gaza Strip region on Thursday evening (Apr. 7), an Iron Dome battery successfully intercepted a rocket fired from Gaza towards Israel.

Immediately afterwards, IAF aircraft targeted a rocket-launching terrorist cell. A hit was identified.

The Iron Dome anti-rocket system, operated by aerial defense network soldiers, is currently undergoing an operational trial in southern Israel.

The Iron Dome system was designed as a response to the threats Israel faces from short-range rockets and mortar shells. The system has the capability to identify and destroy such projectiles before they land in Israeli territory.

The IDF will continue to carry out all steps necessary in order to protect the residents of southern Israel.

  • @meirt1978 Yes - because Israel wants to PROTECT its citizens.

  • The cost of maintaining and operating Iron Dome should be deducted from the sums paid by Israel to the "Palestine" Authority a way of recouping the expense of deploying Iron Dome. Let them eat and drink their GRADs. It would be quite interesting to see how long the civilians in Gaza will put up with their corrupt terrorist leadership then!

  • In 2006 Hizbollah fired so many rockets we would have used every interceptor in the country within the first day. If its for shooting down the odd kassem from Hamas which causes $30 damage, each interceptor cost around $30,000 a useless system

  • @panafilmxxx I'm pretty sure even if they hated their leadership they couldn't do much because the leaders are suicidal, they'd take everyone with them if they were to fall.

  • Grad is a Russian Truch mounted system, these are explosiveless home made rockets filled with Fertilizer, usually Land in open fields near Sderot, but Fatah would prefer 350 F16's or Hundreds of Hellfire Missile-30mm gatling gun firing Apaches.but since their Kids are Murdered by IDF Israel every week with 15 Billion $US a yr these have to do. Israel Murdered 1460 Unarmed Civilians in 2009 incl 400 kids.palestinian have Nil tanks Nil Nukes Nil F15 &F16 & Nil Air defences BUT ISRAEL=VICTIM SHITE

  • Israeli iron dome to be copied by china??? Iron Dome sold to the u.s.a is the right thing because it will be spun off to bigger defensive systems.but not be sold to everone with the money. giving out this tech is dangerous to the jews state, copy cats of this system by china is a very real threat and we know what that means.

  • @alieev Yes, a final solution to Iran is well underway dickhead

  • Wow this is just AMAZING. I Have never heard anything like it before EVER....This guy has one hell of a deep voice.

  • HAHAHAHAHAH palestinians LOSERS!

  • @Timothyk11 the current cost of each missile is around 200k (the prices are for the "US" version of the system licensed to Raytheon), the SOP is to launch 2 interceptors per target, the additional est 50K per launch is the added cost of maintenance of the system and the production line. also this is the cost of the current system deployment, as time goes by and more systems are made the price per intercept will decrease. some sources estimate a price of 40-60k per missile in domestic production.

  • @beepIL Thankyou very much for the information ! - I didnt know about that. :)
