The 1st 12 Yr Old Bodybuilder-part1

Before there was Richard Sandrack, was 12 yr old bodybuilder Garret Walsh. This is from the short documentary Body By Garret, 1981. Yes he was natural & later became Mr Canada. Unfortunatly, he did develop Lou Gerhigs disease & current status is unknown. Currently nobody has copyright of this film and only cvmc.com have DVD available but is analog to digital transfer only. So all movie images, clips part of public domain.

@moncheriist you should read the video comments. this is not me. he was pretty big for age 12 but was huge back then. by todays standards probably above average since many more 12yrs old lift weights. i did lift weights at 11 and 12 also. i was not even close to being as ripped but had more muscle mass. i was an ealy maturer probably 5'6 at age 12 but was more a weight lifter than a bodybuilder. it was very unusual for 12 yr olds to lift weights back in 1980s other than once in ahile in gym.

From a May 2009 press release:

"Garret Walsh was diagnosed with ALS in 2003. Walsh, now 40, is fortunate to have a slower progressing form of the disease. He is pictured on the box with his children Keatha, Cory and Joey, and wife, Mary-Anne, who organizes the Sudbury WALK for ALS, one of 28 fundraising walks across Ontario."

thank you very much for the information. The last I heard he was alive was in a websight for ALS, had a statement from him in 2005. also that wikopedia does not have a date of death. glad 2 hear he is still alive.

Garret Walsh back 1981 did not appear to have extreme low body fat or dehydrated self. appeared to be of normal body fat composition. he is not that overly muscular. he is very short and looks more ripped than actually is. could be more an issue with kids today trying to be bodybuilders 2 soon.

guarrett is my bestfriend dad and he is funny but not i good shape hes son corey (my bestfriend ) plays hockey and anyone like guarrett who has the strengh to go to the arena and watch corey play guarrett is the greatest dad anyone will ever see or know without him corey joey or keatha whould be nowhere lost and broken but he has the strengh to fight it just to see more days with their wonderfull children guarrett is my hero and manny other childrens hero to we all love you guarret
