Here Jelly talks about the St Louis scene in the first decade of the 20th century and plays Maple Leaf Rag "better than all the rest because the boys couldn't finger so good".

  • yeah tempo is too fast, in my opinion Scott Joplin plays this song better.

  • Sounds like Morgan Freeman

  • if thats how people were playing Maple Leaf and other rags in St Louis at the time Joplin was there, no wonder he started putting on his music "do not play this piece fast. it is never right to play ragtime fast"

  • El decía que invento el jazz, no lo hizo...pero le anduvo cerca..... un grande maestro, un creador, el swing que tiene el en parte se lo debe a el, gracias maestro!!!!

  • One of the best swingingest versions of this song was recorded by Harry the Hipster Gibson who actually wrote lyrics to the rag and sang it. I'm going to record that to youtube right now, I'll have it up my this afternoon. It's fantastic.

  • Later on this same recording (I assume this is from the Library of Congress tapes) Jelly does his own, jazzed up version of this same song. It is unlike any other version I know of, and just about unforgetable. I could send it to you, or download it here, if anyone else is interested.

  • @geissler91 I agree lol
