  • The Yorkdale-Downsview slowness might be due to construction for the Spadina-York extension to open.

  • @WC6 Hmm...that might be . Are they digging around Downsview currently?

  • Great new video to start things off for the new viewers! Perhaps one of the next episodes could discuss art in the TTC, and possibly something about the TTC's very own font? -Amitai

  • @amitai17 Hey Amitai! Check out Season 1, episode 4, in which we discuss (and interview) some subway art, although there's still room for other stations to be featured. As for the font, that's a great idea to use in the future - thanks!

  • @EquidemDico My MPP can care less about my view as my view is worth less in strategic voting than that of a Woodbrigite, hence how the subway is being extended to Vaughan courtest of Greg Sorbara.

  • @EquidemDico They are moochers because they do NOT contribute to the taxbase that pays into the operational cost of the TTC, somewhere to be 25-30%. They ride 5-days week in the middle of rush hour & ride the TTC mostly end-to-end (or worse Finch-Museum) taking away service from people further down the line who travel shorter distance yet pay the same fare & who likely contribute to the taxbase that funds the TTC. A tourist riding on a Sunday afternoon is nowhere near similiar to these moochers

  • @blarazan Workers, university/college students, people visiting family regularly - all "moochers"? Ooookay. I'm gonna let anyone else reading our dialogue decide on that one. I think both of us have made our points here...in the meantime, go ahead and lobby your MPP for some provincial funding. I'm all for it.

  • @EquidemDico No, we're dealing with 5 day a week moochers. Tourists actually spend money, book hotels, see things.

Buying a lunch at a food court does not contribute anywhere near the contribution that TO taxes put into the TTC, which is our system and not a regional system

  • @blarazan ...and tourists too?

  • @blarazan So, your argument is simply that people who live in the suburbs have no right to use the TTC?

  • @EquidemDico They are not paying more to TO. A unified system would only benefit the suburban riders at a detriment to local riders who rely on 24/7 and have paid into its capital and operational costs longer. It would encourage urban sprawl and reward suburbs who never invested in their own transit systems.

Also, many suburban riders get a ride to the start of the line or park at a TTC lot where the costs of offering that parking far outweigh the charge they incur to park there

  • @EquidemDico There is different levels of using and there is different transit targeted at different people. These people filming these clips are crowding the system at its starting point, leaving people waiting on platforms from Eglinton south to Bloor who cant fit onto packed trains. And there is no doubt that those people are all taxpayers in TO, unlike the makers of these clips

  • @blarazan ...until that system happens, though, we can't blame people for using public transit for getting to where they need to go.

  • @blarazan Firstly, you're forgetting that in order to reach TTC services, many suburbanites have to take their own region's transit systems first. For example, a York Region Transit fare (using a ticket from a 10-pack) works out to $2.60 each way. Then there's TTC fare on top of that, so you're looking at at least $10 per day for a 2-way trip - so they *are* paying more. That being said, a unified system that spans the entire GTA, using fare zones, would of course be the best option.
