Details: http://www.lifeisaprayer.com/review/photography/nikon-d7000#external-mics

Reviewed in this video: Rode VideoMic, Audio-Technica condenser lavaliere, and Sony WCS-999 Wireless system (with A-T lav instead of included mic).

Sorry about the yellow cast to the image - my office has the worst. lighting. ever.

Please check the link at the top of this description for more info, an in-depth review, and for links to the gear I used. Everything was edited in the video without modification—no sound level adjustments, no normalization, nothing. It's all straight from camera. I just used iMovie to tighten up the clips and add titles.

  • Yeah, it records fine without headphones. But does the D7000 even have a place to put he headphones in? If so, where is it? Cause I can't seem to find it.

  • @321jcjcjc - The A/V jack on the side should put through the sound while recording.

  • I also have a Rode mic. Do you happen to know why its making a buzzing noise when I plug in a earphone? Or when I don't plug in the earphones.. I play the video and the sound quality is really low?

  • @321jcjcjc - Sounds like an electrical problem... how are you powering the microphone and camera? If it's batteries all around, there shouldn't be a problem. Does it record fine without headphones?

  • Is there a setting in the D7000 camera to turn external mic ?

  • @Mtrebor63 - No, you just plug it in, and the D7000 will recognize it (if it's a compatible mic). I recommend the VideoMic.

  • Yeah, I've tried plugging it through the A/V jack and it makes a buzzing noise. When I pull it out, it's fine.

  • @DanhNguyenster64

The one mounted on the camera will. It'll be much quieter than the internal mic but you can still hear it. The lav mics will not pick up the focusing mechanism.

  • @geerlingguy awesome! Thanks again!
