@geosunkist That is really interesting, and I myself have often wondered where the expression came from. My theory is that two people, one white and one black, are so attracted to each other that they lose all cultural inhibitions and follow their innate instrincts. In other words, their jungle instincts. But it could very well have racist connotations. In any case, if two people are in love, they should do what they want and not worry about society's hang ups.
