Recitativo

Perfidissimo cor! Iniquo fato!
Iniquissimo amor! Tirsi spietato!
Dov'e, dov'e l'amore,
che per me nel tuo core si nutriva?
Ah, lungi al tuo petto
svani, si fermo affetto.
Lo so bene, lo so, che se un amante
ottiene cio che brama,
di poi piu non si cura.
Ah disleal, ah ingrato!
Perfidissimo cor, Tirsi spietato!

Aria

Nel torbido mio petto
s'aggira un'ombra squallida
di sdegno e crudelta.

E quest'e la vendetta
che cancellar pretende
l'onta d'infedelta.

Recitativo

Cosi dunque tradisci chi contenta
t'offerse i primi affetti?
Dimmi, qual fede mai
infido aver tu puoi, se chiaro vedi
che di tua fe il candore
si rassomiglia alla vernale brina,
che tocca un poco dall'artura face
in niente tutta si dissolve e sface.
Cosi per te, o inumano,
per crederti in amor ognuna cede.
Misera amante e quella che ti crede.

Aria

Piu amar non spero, n,
se il prim m'inganno
e infido mi tradi.

Misera ancor per me,
che ancor non spero fe
se l'amor mio svani.

Translation (by Hugh Graham):

Recitativo

Most treacherous heart! Unjust fate!
Most infamous love! Pitiless Tirsis!
Where, where is the love
you used to harbour for me in your heart?
Ah, far from your breast
that once steadfast affection has vanished.
I know well, yes I know, that if a lover
has his way,
henceforth he cares not at all.
Ah, disloyal one, ah, ingrate!
Most treacherous heart, pitiless Tirsis!

Aria

In my fevered breast
there writhes a shade made wretched
through disdain and cruelty.

And this [shade] is revenge,
which strives to wipe out
the shame of infidelity.

Recitativo

Do you thus betray one who happily
offered you her first love?
Tell me, faithless man, what faith at all
can you have, when I can see clearly
that the purity of your faith
is like a spring frost,
that lightly touched by the glowing torch
dissolves completely and is melted?
Thus it is with you, O inhuman being,
to whom all surrender to believe in your love.
Wretched is the loving girl who believes you!

Aria

I hope never to love again, no,
since my first love deceived me
and wickedly betrayed me.

I am still in misery,
for I no longer hope for faithfulness,
since my love faded.
