Time for another detective: dandyesque Monsieur Hercule Poirot, the famous Belgian detective. An invention by Agatha Christie and played by illustrious actors like Charles Laughton (on stage), Tony Randall, Ian Holm, Peter Ustinov or Albert Finney, he was perfectly brought to life by David Suchet (who once had played Inspector Japp to Ustinov's Poirot). The series started in 1989 and is still running, with Suchet probably being able to do every Poirot story ever written by Christie.

In this scene - which also has Hugh Fraser as Poirot's sidekick Captain Hastings, Pauline Moran as his secretary Miss Lemon and Philip Jackson as a marvellous Inspector Japp - Poirot's little grey cells face an unsolvable problem - regarding his collars.

  • poirot is my second favourite detective, thanx for sharing this!

  • I have to say, I never liked Christie's books and stories - her style is not my cup of tea, I guess. But Suchet is such a perfect Poirot down to the details, and the series is great, exciting entertainment.

And hell, Philip Jackson as Japp is brilliant! ;)

  • Don't be sorry, i don't speak chinese either.

  • I love this scene!!!

  • DAVID Suchet - the ONLY Poriot!

  • I didn't realise that David Suchet had been doing the Poirot series for so long. I was born the year this was made!! lol

  • Poirot's pedantry is a pure zen.

  • @infidel94 Did you have a nice, big mustache as well? :)

  • @thisherecat I totally agree with you, finding Finney the best Poirot. Don't forget that film was made in the time that Christie was still alive and she probably was consulted on how to play Poirot as best as possible. But I wouldn't call Suchet thát bad...

  • lol wonderfull scene -

  • @thisherecat

    Suchet represents Poirot quite well.

  • This scene is perfectly staged. There is nothing (that I can think of) that can be improved upon.

    Pauline Moran is excellent here.
