About 6 months ago I picked up this neglected 1986 Porsche 944 n/a for a mere $600. It didn't run, and the clutch was blown out. Several weekends of work later, here's the inagural start up to make sure everything's working again. Now it's on to restoring that beat-up body.

  • It had one of those early style rubber-disc clutches that always go to pieces when they get old. Besides that, the LF motor monut was worn out, thermoswitch was bad so the fans were running constantly, RF wheel bearing was shot, rear main seal was leaking, oil pan gasket was leaking, just a lot of minor things really. I have a whole new front end in boxes in the corner of the garage, fenders, bumper, lights, etc. Someone wrecked the front of the car by backing into it with a truck.

  • What model years have the rubber disc clutch? im restoring an 85 and was wondering

  • I believe 83' - 88' are the years for that style of clutch. It's no longer available even aftermarket since it's unreliable as it ages. New 944 clutches are more conventional and have springs in them instead

  • Forget about it. You gonna spend fortune to bring this back. Bottom line is this car has no power. 150hp in good day only. 90% truck drivers will smoke you. Safe some money and get Turbo. It's night and day difference.

  • LOL i bought my 944 for the same price and problem+ same paint job

  • ya it shifts pretty rough, alot of lag and bad down shifts and gives off a terrible smell after a while. What do u recommend i do
