Absolutely, the "rewritten" ornaments he offers are hideous -- the trill on the high C sharp sounds awkward and gratuitous and VERY not in the belcanto style.

This is Gustav Kuhn you are talking about..I totally agree about the arrogance you talk about, I am not a great fan of this guy, he doesn't make any effort in trying to make a singer feel confrotable as a matter of fact she doesn't look very happy with him...

Mariella's original ornament was much better than the formulaic and boring ornament this lame conductor asks her to sing. Some people don't realize it when they are in front of a real genious and have the arrogance to think they can do better...
