If he drinks for free he will stay longer and keep the police attention he draws at the club. And if he drinks for free he will drink too much being that he was in prison and was not allowed to drink. And bad things happen when guys get wasted at the bar.

The worst decision Avon made was letting D'angelo work for him in the first place. D'angelo's murder case is the case that started the entire case against Avon Barksdale. D'angelo is a punk and he should have never been in the game. Listen to the court case. D'angelo was getting beatup because he can't fight and he had to take out his gun and kill the man.

Wee-Bay talks to Deangelo about this later on. The thing is Marcell just came home from prison and people that are just released from prison are being watched by police. Talking to people that's just released from prison draws attention from the cops.
