@kja427 Skynyrd weren't racists - that's an urban legend. "Sweet Home Alabama" was tongue-in-cheek and Ronnie van Zant, their leader in the 70s, was a liberal. The other side of that album opened with Ballad of Curtis Lowe, about a young white boy's friendship with an old black dobro player. When a band of hippie types posed with Confed flags, that was also a statement, and not one that racists would have approved of back then.

Those of us who remember songs like this when they hit the charts may have had long hair, listened to 8 track tapes, wore bell bottoms, drove muscle cars, and our sweeties may have wore halter tops but we respected our country, saluted our flag, and would kick anyone's ass who did not like it. Guess what? We are now the back bone working class of this country who love it and will still go to your ass while listening to 70's Rock!
