I pray everynight somebody breaks into my house. I've got an AR-15 and a Kalashnikov, I'd happily use the AR with 55gr high velocity Tap rounds and I'd pump the cocksucker with so much lead and empty the magazine with a big smile on my fucking face, I don't care how much prison time they give me ;D.

Home defense is not guns it is keep the bad people outside long enough for you to call the cops and for them to get there (50 minutes). That also mean when you are not there. So you don’t have to shoot them and have nightmares the rest of your life. Only after you set up you first, second, and third line of defense do you worry about a stupid gun. But do get a stupid so you can shoot the bad people if the cops don’t show un in the 50 minutes.

5minutes is all a burglar needs to get in and get out with things that they are willing to take and carry. A home invasion with intent to rape or murder could be just as quick especially if it were a hit or if they have been scoping out the place.

Also, not everyone can afford to get an alarm system that sends a signal to a service provider or police. A firearm cost much less and is more protection than an alarm system.

@butterflywingsofwind You are right if you start the five minutes when such perpetrator encounters the victim. But the alarm system sends the signal to the service provider or the police earlier, i.e.: when the perpetrator opens any one of the doors or windows, or brakes into the house anyhow. When the alarm starts you can hide in the house, the noise will be awful, so the criminal will run if he can. If he keeps on searching for valuables in the house he will have no chance to get away with it.
