Shotty's Classic Series #3:

The Allmans' guitarist had already penned many recognizable tunes before his 1976 debut album, and sculpted one of the most well-crafted country albums no one's heard. The gently pastoral fourth track is too beautiful to be left unheard!

  • hey thank you. many moons since hearing this.the one tune on this album that i played again & again was .... rain rain rain you're lonesome company but it's just you & me tonight.thanks again

  • "Rain" is another good song on the album. They really don't make LPs like that anymore.

  • Great album. I was hoping someone would post this.Vasser Clements was great. I saw the tour when they came to Capitol theater in Passiac, New Jersey back in the 1970s. Please post more from this album. Hand picked was another great one from this album. What an All Star cast of country musicians!

  • Yeah, I might just post more of 'em. Hand Picked is too long, though...and splitting it would be lame. =/

  • i had no idea this existed

  • Yeah, it's hard to imagine the Allmans without Dickey's guitarwork (not to mention he penned many of their most well-known hits).

  • Highway Call is one of my favorite albums in a room full of compact discs, boxes of tapes, and a few dusty old LPs' - it never fails to get right down to the core for me. Actually listening to this today - and thinking about Red Dog...

  • I gotta get me a turntable for all these albums I haven't heard in 20 years or so.

  • Highway Call ranks right up there with the best country rock albums of all time. Great pedal steel, harmonies, Vassar on fiddle, and Dickey picking on guitar. My favorite is Long Time Gone where it seems they could have jammed forever on that song if they wanted.

  • Thanks.
