Mata Gujri, is considered to be one of the holiest saints in Sikhism. She played a pivotal role within the Sikh religion as the wife of Guru Tegh Bahadur (the ninth Guru of Sikhism) and the mother of Guru Gobind Singh (the tenth Guru of Sikhism). Mata Gujri and the younger Sahibzadey Baba Fateh & Baba Zorawar Singh (the children of Guru Gobind Singh) sought shelter with a servant of Guru Gobind Singh Ji called Gangu. Gangu betrayed Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the Sikhs by telling the Mughals where Mata Gujri and her grandchildren were staying. Mata Gujri was murdered along with the two younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji; Sahibzadey Baba Zorawar Singh and Sahibzadey Baba Fateh Singh Ji, under the command of the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb for refusing to convert to Islam. Mata Gujri was ordered to lay on an ice block and her grandchildren were bricked alive. While the younger Sahibzadey were being bricked alive they were reciting the holy Japji Sahib. The Gurdwara Mata Gurjari was built in remembrance of Mata Gujri where she spent her last four days

  • sikhism is so beautiful such a clean simple religion.

  • Reality...but this has made us a stronger religion.

Muslims tried to wipe us out...but instead strengthen our resolve.

The Gurus helped us understand that irrational religious practises like stone worship, praying facing a particular direction, fasting do not bring us closer to God at all...they are irrelevant. Our deeds day to day...helping the unfortunate, praising God, protecting the weak...these are the hallmarks of Sikhims!
