Here is some old 8mm footage of a "Georgia Bulldog" taken around 1960. As you can see, the body type of this breed has changed dramatically over the last half century. I would guess that the dogs back then were much healthier than the current bloodline the University of Georgia uses for their Uga Mascot. These particular dogs have hit a rough spot as of late, with Uga VI, VII, and VIII all dying between 2008 and February of 2011. Something is seriously wrong with our mascot and I wish the breeding program would be turned over to the vet school.

  • is that one of the "uga's"...bloodline?

  • @TheBigGravy - I seriously doubt it, but you never know. This clip was just in about 1 and a half hours worth of old 8mm film footage I transferred to DVD for a client. I did around 1700 feet of film for the guy.

  • Looks like an Olde English Bulldog

  • @ToothSIayer - It does, but I don't think that breed existed in 1960.

  • You have some very valid points. english bulldogs have many health issues due to the minimalized variation in the breed over the years. If you look into Olde English bulldogges, Victorian bulldogs and Olde victorians. They breed them specificly to make a healthier dog. I have an OEB Check my page His name is Monty.
