Read the book BEFORE the film.

well... at the start of the book, the guy had flashbacks of his relationship while listening to the instrumental of Norwegian Wood by The Beatles. Maybe that's why the title had to be Norwegian wood.

I always pictured Midori like Faye Wong in Chungking Express ... or at least her hairstyle.

The movie seems fragmented because his life is fragmented. Its like he's living three separate lives, one with Naoko, one with Midori and one with Nagasawa.

The trailer is even better than the actual movie.

The movie is too fragmented. It records most of the memorable scenes or lines in the book, but when all the stuff combine, it cannot show the emotion or the more delicate stuff . The novel is great but the movie is only okay.

Didn't like this film at all. I could relate to some subtle pieces but the movie in totality is not for me.

Since Norwegian Wood is my all-time favorite novel, I am picky as all hell. There's quite a lot it gets right (Naoko was very close to how she is in my mind when reading the book; the late '60s Tokyo feel is right on; Toru is depicted pretty well) and some things the film doesn't get right like with Kobayashi Midori, perhaps my #1 favorite character from literature. I just feel she wasn't quite depicted right here, from her not-short-enough hair to her attitude. They didn't quite get her right.
