  • @commodore256 Ports don't sell consoles.

Also, keep in mind, what would be in it for Google? They make money by data mining people that use Android devices and google services. Yeah, they can make some money by selling games, but i can guarantee that unless there are some unified checks and balances in place, such an effort would fail.

Consider this, Android is more wide spread than iOS, but iOS' app store profits can fit google's android app store profits in its back pocket.

  • @sc0pl355 Nowadays, It's hard to get exclusives, but I think google has enough cash to make companies port to their platform.

It's happening in away now with tablets.

  • @commodore256 Yeah, but look at how long it took for Android to get decent software. It thrived because it tagged along as a secondary function on a phone. That model would utterly fail as the primary function on a console.

"Would you think the 3DO would of still failed if it was $250 and had megaman, castlevaina, bomberman and final fantasy?"

That's the thing, it wouldn't get those titles until after it proved itself as a platform or Google signed exclusivity contracts. That's what Ninten did

  • @sc0pl355 that was the 90's and it was super duper expensive and they didn't have good games. Would you think the 3DO would of still failed if it was $250 and had megaman, castlevaina, bomberman and final fantasy? (and they were all good)

I would rather pay $300 for a console every 3 years than $500 for a new tablet.

The model we have sucks because everybody's playing follow the leader and not thinking outside the box and it's broken.

  • @commodore256 Licensing console OSes has never worked. Several companies have tried and failed with that model. Remember the CD-I? Pippin? 3DO?

No good. The present model for console manufacturing works just fine. The overall strength of console development stems from the closed platform approach because games can be optimized to more efficiently utilize the hardware when there are limited variables involved. This approach requires less brute force to perform similar tasks at the end of the day

  • @sc0pl355 lol, it was an inside joke.

I know, I kinda think you're dwelling on the "what ifs". Our way of gaming will exist in the future, just like people buying vacuum tube amps for home stereos, but it will be expensive.

I think the future of the way we game will be basically what android did to tablets, I think there will be a console OS that's licensed to vendors.

  • @commodore256 I'm not looking forward to waggle technology outside of playing the next dance central with girls or something.

  • @ViciousDave4Life opt-ti-mi-zation. Ever heard of that?

  • It looks like the 720 is 20% cooler.

  • AMD Radeon HD 6670? Ha, ha, lol, my CPU card is better than that, I have a AMD Radeon HD 6770, it has 16 more shaders, capable of 8X anti-aliasing, and 162GB/S frame buffer memory transfer. The 6670 only has 112GB/S frame buffer memory, 12 shaders, and 4X anti-aliasing capability. Hey Microsoft, I am owning something better already, so screw your new console until you can beat it!
