.In 1988, Ken Paquette, a Wisconsin fan of the 1950s, erected a stainless steel monument at the site of the airplane crash, depicting a steel guitar and a set of three records bearing the names of each of the three performers. It is located on private farmland approximately five miles north of Clear Lake.

  • Great video. I can't believe how remote that site is. It's amazing it didn't take days to find them. (Didn't they find the crash the very next day?) I always pictured it being closer to a main road.

  • @qthelost The road in was a dirt gravel road, so I had to drive a couple of miles to get to this point where I started my walk.

  • would there probably still be small airplane parts there

  • @TheKingCameron very possible if no one ever checked with a metal detector. But who knows. I do not

  • Very true, it was great to be able to pay my respects to these young artists

  • Good question, I was nearly following the walk path and came across the memorial which I took as the spot. If they died on the other side I do not know. Could very much be the owner on the other side does not want people on his property. I think this site should be purchased and a biggerr memorial should be built to honor these young starts taken to early.

  • First of all, I want to thank Mr. Paquette for erecting the nice stainless steel monument at the site. I'm sure I speak for all fans of the deceased in saying "thank you." I visited the site several years ago before Paquette's monument was erected. It's a very surreal spot and makes you think of that fateful night.

  • I made the trek a few days ago, Dec. 18, while on my way from SC to Minnesota for work. It was at dusk, getting cold, . A very moving experience, and I gotta believe other than I 35 in the distance, not too much was different than that day in '59. I couldn't help but think of that small plane shooting across the sky and coming to rest there. Having spent much of my life fascinated by their stories, and seeing the pictures, it truly was surreal to be standing there in that quiet spot. RIP
